Mrs. Marion Donnell
Today
marks the end of an era - the end of a remarkable gift of beautiful
organ music to our congregation for 35 years by Mrs. Marion Donnell.
It is also worth noting that Mrs. Marion Donnell played the piano
for Eastern Star for 35 years when it was located at the Masonic
Lodge (former Congregational Church).
Marion began her music
career while in middle school in Bingham, Maine. Her
instructor was a nice lady who played the piano for the local silent
movies. While living in Augusta, she received piano lessons from Mr.
George Goody. Mildred Flanders instructed Marion on the organ
so that she could play for the Bragdon-Flanders funeral home.
When Ruby Haskell stepped down as church organist she also
instructed Marion on the idiosyncrasies of our Ryder Tracker
organ. In damp weather the organ will "talk back" to her. In
cold weather the keys work hard and sometimes she gets a blast of
cold air form the keys. One needs a heavy touch for the organ and a
light touch for the piano.
Mrs. Donnell's music will
be missed, we are grateful for the joy and peace her talent has
brought to us for these many years.

We presented Marion with a plaque for her years of
service
and a beautiful music box to keep music in her life

And then we had a good old fashioned tea with good food and
better friends.
Marion - we will truly miss your playing for us!
